Why Does Facebook Store Personal Information Even After You Have Deleted Your Account?
2009-12-18 at 03:48 am hugegeCreepy huh? Now I was wondering why. Are the owners of Facebook so desperate for “someone” of the opposite gender, that they must save information and pictures to view, and to be turned on by them? I mean cmon..
Again. I am wondering why Facebook does this.

cuz its possible you to reactivate your account…
No, That has nothing to do with it. The answer has more to do with the technical aspects of the site. Facebook is a massive website, and it is stored on many many different servers. Each of the servers back up their data, and that data is stored for security/functionality reasons. They don’t keep your data to be weird or creepy, they do it so that they can provide good service. It just takes them a while to clear your data out of all of the backups.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
With all the information gathered from the over 200 million users, the bits and pieces of users’ information is extremely valuable. The information that everyone gives Facebook to create an account is a great starting point to break down the userbase into demographics. Then, by adding friends, joining groups, becoming a fan of a page, taking polls, taking quizzes and more, you are individualizing your interests.
Companies would pay big money for Facebook’s info! Especially, if you only wanted to market your product to 24 year old males from Southern California that like iPhones and computer games… The possibilities are endless and somewhat concerning.
Facebook tried to change their terms and conditions on their users in February but it didn’t fly too well for them. There was a massive backlash!
The monetization paths for Facebook are limited. They currently make all their money on ads within Facebook. They are forecasted to generate 500 Million Dollars in revenue in 2009! This seems like a ton of money, but Facebook is now a huge company with a lot of expenses.
We will see if Facebook chooses to go Big Brother on their users and sell the valuable information of its userbase… The $$$ may be too good to pass up in the future. Especially if they keep growing because costs will grow as well. Simple Business 101 would say, costs up, revenue must go up as well… Being limited by the amount of clicks you and I make on their site, they may go in other scary directions.
Hopefully they never choose to sell our info, but you never know!
Have a good day.
You cannot delete your account. It just deactivates. If facebook deleted all your information, you would lose all your information and therefore if you reactivated it, you would have nothing.
Also do you really think they would browse through millions of accounts to find some pictures to look at? There are websites allocated for that kind of stuff.
Theory 1: If you get reported they can track you down by using email.
Theory 2: They might want to use your email to send you emails asking you to join again.
Theory 3: There are a bunch of ugly fat guys who work at facebook and have nothing better to do on a weekend except sit at their ancient machines eating pot noodles setting up online dates.
Hope this helps. Probably Wont But Hey I Answered
Actually, I agree with Cynthia, they may use your account settings to determine your location on crimes from harassment to possibly murder.
it all boils down to money. advertising, data collecting on where to and what to advertise.
MY THEORY IS THAT FACEBOOK IS CONNECTED TO THE POLICE OR THE FBI & THIS IS THEIR UNDERGROUND WAY OF CATCHING LONG LOST CRIMINALS!
